Content Strategy

We helped Greer Commission of Public Works (CPW) make utility information more accessible to users.

We were very impressed with Engenius and the execution of our website revamp. The team was able to take our vision and consolidate it down into something practical for our customers. In just the first few months, we’ve seen an uptick in the online forms to start/stop service – a feature our previous site did not have.

At a Glance

  • We made it easier for Greer CPW customers to pay their bill and access their account.
  • We condensed, combined, and organized content to transform a once-overwhelming and cluttered website into a streamlined, easy-to-use website.

Background

Greer Commission of Public Works is the utility provider for the city of Greer, South Carolina and surrounding areas. Greer CPW came to Engenius with a website that, although visually updated, they felt was overwhelming and contained too much content.

The result was a cumbersome experience for users—especially those who may not be familiar with performing common utility actions like paying their bill or viewing their account summary—online.

Objectives

Greer CPW consulted Engenius to simplify their site and streamline the user experience by rethinking the overall content structure. The finished product needed to:

  • more effectively represent all the services Greer CPW offers
  • be intuitive and easy for users to navigate and find the information they need
  • showcase participating artists and their work in an engaging, interactive way
  • allow artists to sell and/or auction off their work online
  • allow Artisphere to recognize and thank their sponsors

Solution

  • We identified the primary actions users would need to take on the website: to either start or stop service or to pay their bill. We prioritized this information, making it front and center on the website. Greer CPW’s new site features a simple and streamlined utility navigation with “Start/Stop Service” and “Account Login” so users have easy access to the actions they will take most.
  • We simplified the main navigation heavily so that users are only presented with the most relevant information to their needs. We nested supporting information like “About Us” and “News” under a flyout navigation that is accessible via a menu button in the corner of the site.
  • The old site had various pages for each utility, making it confusing to navigate. We condensed all utility information so that each utility has its own dedicated page and instead used on-page navigation to help users find the information they are seeking.
  • The new site features beautiful custom photography that showcases Greer as a whole as well as the specific utility services that Greer CPW offers.
